I am a freelance editorial consultant, adviser and mentor, with over twenty years experience working on adult literary and commercial fiction and memoir.  I was an agent at the Wylie Agency, where my clients included W.G. Sebald and Salman Rushdie, and I am now associate editor at the Literary Consultancy, as well as editor and reader for a variety of publishers, agents and literary scouts.  I am the long-list judge for the Bridport memoir award, and also read for the novel award whose winners I have mentored. I have an MA in English Literature from Cambridge University and live in London.

My life revolves around books: reading them, editing them, and helping writers to write them.  While I believe everyone has the right to self-expression, I am most experienced in helping writers who are mature in their writing journey.  This does not mean they have necessarily published books but that they are serious about writing as an art form.  As you can see from my blog, I have eclectic taste but I believe in the importance of quality of style and thought.
